Quantum Systems for Fundamental Physics
Recently there has been enormous progress in creating and manipulating quantum states for quantum computing. Due to the extreme sensitivity of such systems to very small effects, this is a boon for fundamental physics where whispers from the dark side or the quantum effects of gravity can imprint observable effects. We apply the formalism of open quantum systems (whether Schwinger-Keldysh or the Feynman-Vernon Influence Functional) to model the effects of spacetime fluctuations or dark matter on quantum systems such as matter-wave interferometers.
